Ani and Seta with Dad
NICHOLAS LENTS is an Armenian-American adoptee living and working in the Upper Midwest. He recieved his BFA in Photography at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. He uses the medium of photography to shape his understanding of how building a sense of identity, feelings of belonging to a community, and notions of home are tangled up with each other, and with the physical and cultural environment(s) we find ourselves in. Using multiple photographic formats and sculptural installation, his documentary practice focuses on diasporic communities making a home in in-between spaces, in the hopes of revealing beauty amidst political and interpersonal precarity. His piece “Ani and Seta with Dad” is from his ongoing work titled Everything the Old Country Has Forgotten and Nothing the New Country Has Seen Before, which focuses on the contemporary Armenian diaspora.
